Estimating Weighted Matchings in o(n) Space

چکیده
We consider the problem of estimating the weight of a maximum weighted matching of a weighted graph G(V, E) whose edges are revealed in a streaming fashion. We develop a reduction from the maximum weighted matching problem to the maximum cardinality matching problem that only doubles the approximation factor of a streaming algorithm developed for the maximum cardinality matching problem. Our results hold for the insertion-only and the dynamic (i.e, insertion and deletion) edge-arrival streaming models. The previous best-known reduction is due to Bury and Schwiegelshohn (ESA 2015) who develop an algorithm whose approximation guarantee scales by a polynomial factor. As an application, we obtain improved estimators for weighted planar graphs and, more generally, for weighted bounded-arboricity graphs, by feeding into our reduction the recent estimators due to Esfandiari et al. (SODA 2015) and to Chitnis et al. (SODA 2016). In particular, we obtain a (48+ǫ)-approximation estimator for the weight of a maximum weighted matching in planar graphs.

Sublinear Estimation of Weighted Matchings in Dynamic Data Streams
This paper presents an algorithm for estimating the weight of a maximum weighted matching by augmenting any estimation routine for the size of an unweighted matching. The algorithm is implementable in any streaming model including dynamic graph streams. We also give the first constant estimation for the maximum matching size in a dynamic graph stream for planar graphs (or any graph with bounded...
متن کاملPlanar Matching in Streams Revisited
We present data stream algorithms for estimating the size or weight of the maximum matching in low arboricity graphs. A large body of work has focused on improving the constant approximation factor for general graphs when the data stream algorithm is permitted O(n polylogn) space where n is the number of nodes. This space is necessary if the algorithm must return the matching. Recently, Esfandi...
متن کاملOn Estimating Maximum Matching Size in Graph Streams
We study the problem of estimating the maximum matching size in graphs whose edges are revealed in a streaming manner. We consider both insertion-only streams, which only contain edge insertions, and dynamic streams that allow both insertions and deletions of the edges, and present new upper and lower bound results for both cases. On the upper bound front, we show that an αapproximate estimate ...

Let $ mathcal{H}(mathbb{D}) $ denote the space of analytic functions on the open unit disc $mathbb{D}$. For a weight $mu$ and a nonnegative integer $n$, the $n$'th weighted type space $ mathcal{W}_mu ^{(n)} $ is the space of all $fin mathcal{H}(mathbb{D}) $ such that $sup_{zin mathbb{D}}mu(z)left|f^{(n)}(z)right|begin{align*}left|f right|_{mathcal{W}_...
متن کاملRandomized Greedy Algorithms for Independent Sets and Matchings in Regular Graphs: Exact Results and Finite Girth Corrections
We derive new results for the performance of a simple greedy algorithm for finding large independent sets and matchings in constant degree regular graphs. We show that for r-regular graphs with n nodes and girth at least g, the algorithm finds an independent set of expected cardinality f(r)n−O ( (r−1) g2 g 2 ! n ) , where f(r) is a function which we explicitly compute. A similar result is estab...
